What are the different coated abrasive grain types and their characteristics?

Aluminum Oxide – Aluminum Oxide is brown or reddish in color and a man-made abrasive. It is durable with tough cutting edges. It offers long life and is highly wear resistant even under stress applications. Its applications include aluminum, ferrous metals (including alloy steel), hardwood, and leather.
Crocus – Crocus is reddish brown in color. It is a soft material made from iron oxide. It is the finest natural grain produced. Its applications include cleaning and extremely fine polishing of soft materials such as gold.
Emery – Emery is a dark gray round-shaped natural grain. It is better used as a polishing grain than a cutting grain. It is used for cleaning and polishing metals.
Flint – Flint is a low cost white crystalline nonconductive mineral. It is only available with a paper backing. Its is used for low-pressure hand applications, paint removal, and sanding in the electrical motor industry.
Garnet – Garnet is a reddish brown natural grain. It is relatively sharp and has a medium hardness. Its durability cannot be compared to that of synthetic abrasives. It is used for finishing applications in soft woods such as fir or pine.
Silicon Carbide – Silicon Carbide is black in color. It is a sharp, hard synthetic abrasive. Its friable grains fracture to continually expose new cutting edges and permit fast stock removal. Its applications include aluminum, bronze, non-ferrous metals, and non-metallics such as glass, plastic, rubber and soft woods.
White Aluminum Oxide – White Aluminum Oxide is a friable man-made abrasive. Its sharp, cool cutting edges easily break down under pressure to expose new cutting edges. Its applications include non-ferrous metal finishing and production wood sanding.
Zirconia Alumina – Zirconia Alumina is a bluish gray colored ultra rugged synthetic abrasive. It has large fracture planes and is a sharper, more blocky grain than aluminum oxide. It self-sharpens as it cuts and is available only in coarser grits. It is used for heavy duty grinding on all ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and rough planing of wood products.

What is your sample policy?

We can supply the sample if we have ready parts in stock, but the customers have to pay the sample cost and the courier cost.

How is silicon carbide obtained?

Silicon carbide (SiC) is produced from coke and quartz sand applying the Acheson process in an electric resistance furnace. When petrol coke and quartz sand are grouped around a graphite electrode and heated to a temperature of 2,000°C,

What is fepa and what does it do?

FEPA is the Federation of European Producers of Abrasives. Its mission is to develop and publish standards, documents and comprehensive safety instructions for the abrasive industry. Abrasive grain sizes are produced and sold according to the FEPA standard,

What is the grit type?

Grit type is either aluminum oxide (white, pink, ruby red, brown, grey, etc.) silicon carbide (black or green), ceramic (blue and pink) or any combination of these. Grit types are sometimes mixed in combination for achieving certain cutting characteristics.

What is the shelf life of fused aluminum oxide?

fused aluminum oxide products do not have a known shelf life. As long as the product is maintained in the original sealed container and stored in a cool, dry, ventilated area, our product will last indefinitely

What is corundum?

Corundum is a mineral from the category of oxides and hydroxides and is the most frequently used industrial mineral worldwide. It also occurs naturally as a gemstone (sapphire, emerald, ruby). Chemically corundum is aluminium oxide with the chemical

What’s lead time for bulk order?

1)for 5~25 tons, it takes around 10~15days. 2)For 26~200 tons,20-40days We will try to deliver it with the promise of quality guarantee as soon as possible

What is silicon carbide?

Silicon carbide is a chemical compound of silicon and carbon and belongs to the group of carbides. The chemical formula is SiC.Silicon carbide is at the same time the hardest and lightest ceramic material and is also highly

What is porosity?

Porosity is defined as the gas proportion (cavity volume) of a particle’s total volume. It can be determined using different measurement techniques, such as gas adsorption and mercury porosimetry. With the same grain size and shape, a lower

Form and shape of the abrasive:

This decision is made by determining how the abrasive will be used by the individual. Abrasives are sold in forms such as sheets, large/small discs, belts, and large/small rolls. Selecting the right form is determined by whether the

What does the form factor (grain shape) indicate?

The description of the grain shape can range from “angular” to “acicular” to “spherical”. When the value of the dimensionless form factor is 1, the grain is spherical. The smaller the form factor, the pointier the grain.

What does the term “flow properties” mean?

The flow behaviour of powders depends on many factors. The following applies in general: Coarser, dry grain types flow easily, but the fine the grains get, the stronger is the impact of morphology and various adhesive forces on

What is a silane coating used for?

When functionalising fused alumina, a very thin layer of a silane adsorption group is applied to the fused alumina particles. This organic surface coating has the effect of better embedding and increased scratch resistance in a melamine resin

What is melting vs. Sintering?

When processing minerals in a furnace, materials can either be melted or sintered.  When materials are melted during the production process the minerals go from a solid state, to a liquid state, then is re-solidified during the cooling process

Type of glue required:

This decision is made by the type of abrasive you have selected or the type of process you will be performing. Glue – A straight animal hide glue that is used to adhere the abrasive particles to the
