Brown fused alumina powder using calcined bauxite, coke, and iron by controlled melting in an electric arc furnace at a high temperature. Bauxite Used for producing BFA contains high α-Al2O3. After the fusion process, the materials are mixed and fused into liquid materials, then cooled down and crushed(milled)into lump sizes. The lump sizes are then ground into finer grades or powders. Brown fused alumina has high compression strength, toughness, excellent self-sharpening, low thermal expansion coefficient, and excellent hydrophilia and cleanliness.
